PowerScan, Inc. is a pioneering firm in
capture and processing technologies and
applications—working specifically with imaging
related technologies. Originally
founded in 1984 as INTRAFED, from 1985 to 1990,
the company emerged as a forerunner in optical and
imaging technologies. Over that period, the
company pioneered the use of magneto-optical
technology in imaging, and built up an
installation-base of over 150 department-level
systems.
By
1990, PowerScan, Inc. had become one of the most
successful document management solution providers.
As a result of this success, the company was given
an opportunity to integrate the first Kodak
IMAGELINK 900 scanners in support of Operation
Desert Storm. The success of those field-based
scanning subsystems eventually led to the creation
of the industry’s first capture and processing
software, PowerScan, currently available in
fourth-generation releases and installed
worldwide.
Committed to the front-end segment of the
document management marketplace, PowerScan, Inc.
refined the PowerScan scanning software and
developed the first version StageWorks Industrial,
a post scan image processing system. At the same
time, PowerScan, Inc. began actively working in
the commercial sector, developing high-volume
scanning solutions, for conversion service
bureaus, litigation support, records management
applications, pharmaceutical companies, and
manufacturing applications. By late 1992, both
PowerScan and StageWorks Industrial were fully
integrated to operate in tandem for high-volume
needs of service bureaus and Fortune 1000
companies. In
1993, the company was recognized as the number one
pure imaging software provider in the U.S. by
Imaging Magazine. In 1995, the company's
products were awarded Editors' Choice, and Product
of the Year, for Image Capture Products, also by
Imaging Magazine.
In 1994, PowerScan, Inc. began an intense
effort to productize PowerScan and
StageWorks, migrating these applications from an
integrator's system to the industries first truly
out of the box end user solution. In
addition, the company reacted to the changing
customer base and enhanced StageWorks by adding
StageWorks Office and Production. This
provided the end user with a choice of software
based on the number of users and volume.
StageWorks became the first "Scalable" image
processing system.
In 1997, the technology and certain assets
of INTRAFED were sold to Star Technologies, Inc.
(STRR) which lead to the formation of PowerScan,
Inc., a wholly owned operating subsidiary of Star
Technologies, Inc.
In 1999, PowerScan, Inc. once
again redefined the industry with the introduction
of IDEA,
--Integrated
Digital
Environment
Access--
a revolutionary new platform designed to acquire,
process, store and deliver today’s advanced
digital objects-anytime, anywhere.
Based on true industry standards, IDEA is
the most flexible and scalable object capture and
processing platform available today.

within the
same framework and sporting the familiar user
interface / controls between various systems, IDEA
allows a business to meet all of its object
capture and post scan processing needs.
Building on and leveraging the core
competencies of PowerScan and StageWorks, the
first release of IDEA was focused on imaging.
Data Capture, Key Entry, Forms Processing
and solutions for handling other object types will
follow in later releases.
PowerScan, Inc. resells all of its products
